We started with a Company of emigrants for the Valey of the Great Salt Lake[.] it was Called Elder Orson Pratts emigrating Compy[.] James W. Cummings was Chosen Captn. of the Compy.] the Compy. Consisted of a hundred and fifty wagons and that Company was divided into three fiftys and Wm Bates was Chosen Captn.. of the first fifty, Alfred Cordon was Chosen Captn.. of the Second and Morris Felps [Phelps] was Chosen Captn.. of the third fifty[.] thus Compy. was div[id]ed into tens and Captn.s. Chosen for them and John [Daniel] T[hompson] McAllister was Chosen as Clerk of the Second fifty[.] I will now give a Sketch of our travels from the time we left kanesville until we arrived in the Valley of the Great Salt Lake which are the travels of the Second fifty[.] I Shall first give the names of the heads of families[.] the number of Souls , waggons, oxen, cows, loose Cattle, and Horses, that belonged to the fifty
