Sister Hannah Lapish, one of Daniel Robinson’s [Robison’s] Company says:

”Ond [One] day while camping for a short rest, going a short distance from the camp for privacy (the men used to go on the right side of the camp and the women on the left) I heard a young woman groaning and thinking that someone was hurt I went around to see what was the matter, and found a young woman crouching on the ground in great agony. She was a young married woman of the company and she clung to me and would not let me go, but I said: “You must let me go, for you are going to have a baby and I must go and fetch your husband. Running to the camp I brought her husband and another man, and by the time she was csrried [carried] into camp a tent had been prepared for her reception. Some woman in camp acted as midwife and I remained with her and she had a safe delivery and the child lived. The camp had to stop all that day and the following day. I believe, we traveled on, the young woman and her baby traveling in a wagon. They were a young couple from Scotland, but I cannot remember their name, but would like to find out.”
