President Brigham Young

Dear Brother,

I beg to inform you that F.D. Richards’s draft on you in my favour for £400, issued at Liverpool last April, will reach you through Mr. John Richard of Platte Bridge, to whom I have partially endorsed it say to the amount of £267.17.9 or. at $4.85 per £ , $1299.27, reserving to myself the balance, £132.2.3 which Sum you will please pass to my credit until called for on maturity of the draft.

The circumstances under which I have parted with the draft are these – The company with which I am travelling (the last 50 wagons) having lost a number of Cattle in Snow Storms at the Last Crossing of the Platte were unable to move from their encampment without about 15 yoke of new Cattle, and as it was impossible to raise the money in Camp, I offered the draft in question which Bro Hunt found it advisable to use.

                                                                                                Yours truly, Thomas Thomas
