Mother Mary Stead [Steed] Evans, with her son-in-law John Balser, and John Carpenter, their wives and children came with ox teams to the valley of the Great Salt Lake in 1852. On the way, Emma gave birth to her fourth child, Rhoda Amelia Balser who was born at Vermion Creek, on the 17th of June, 1852.



	 In the month of September of that year they arrived the Great Salt Lake valley where they made their home
