I assisted Elder Joseph W. Young at Florence in the outfitting business.

July 15th he caled me as Captain of a Company of 45 Wagons for Zion with Emigrant Saints. Elder [Ola N.] Liljenquists Company and mine was put under the supervition of Elder John Van Cott, and we again had the pleasure of being under his wise and noble guidance.

During my labors at Florence, where at one time there were over 6,000 emigrants we had a laborious but pleasant time, in fitting up the Companies; and a multitude of business was performed, with a firmness highly commendable and to the manor of the Superintendent our beloved Brother Elder Joseph W Young; the arranging and organising skill by which he finished one Company after another, might almost seem magical for lookers on, considering the inconviniences he had to conquer. I shall not forget the day we had the hurricane, which lifted a whole pile of wagonboxes, throwed it over and covered Joseph W; by the providence of heaven he was not killed, but badly injured on forehead and nose, from which he however soon recovered, though suffered a great deal.

We left Florence the 15th of July, and after a very prosperous journey, we arrived on the 22nd on September to the bosom of the Church.
