June 1868 my husband, our four children and I left West Brunwich for Liverpool where we sailed for America in the Minnesota Steam ship. I was very ill all during the journey and it was said I never would reach land alive, but through the power of the Lord I landed 12

July 1868 and soon recovered my health.
We traveled from New York to Lar[a]mie by train and from there to Salt Lake City by mule team with Captain Roylance [Rawlins] Co. We endured many hardships in wading the streams and walking so much of the way untill one of our Company was drowned crossing a large stream and after that we were allowed to ride across the largest ones. One day while we were camped for dinner the Indians came upon us and drove off fourty (40) head of our mules. The men went after them and succeeded in getting them back but two Indians were killed in the trouble. We were very much alarmed after this for fear the rest of the tribe would come upon us so went some distance back and took another route into Salt Lake arriveing 20th Aug. 1868 all well
