Description over of my Mission to Scandinavia To His On the 8th day of April 1876 I was cal- led to go on a Mission to Europe and on the 10th of same month I was set apart for my Mission by Elder C.C. Rich I then commenced to make preparations for my Departure from my home to my Field of Labor. and on the 6th of May I together with some 20 more started for New York and from there to Liver- pool where we all arrived safe on the 27th of May, I was there together with some other Brethren appointed to go to Scandina- via and accordingly started for Hamburg where we arrived June 2 from there I started for Jutland to visit my Parents and relatives where I was welcome until they found out that I was to perform a Mission I visitted the Saints in Horsens and Aarhus. I was then appointed Aarhus Conferentze as my field of labor under the direc- tion of President Chr Jensen who gave me Horsens Branch to labor in as traveling Elder which was among my relatives and acquaintances of my childhood and youth. I while there in my weak way proclaimed 2 the gospel of Jesus Christ in many public meetings as well as in private conversations with many of my former acquaintances. I had the plea- sure of baptizing 6 persons in to the church I labored in Horsens branch 3 a 4 Months then I was sent to Ran- vers branch where the people was more alive to investigate what wi had to tell them I stayed there all Winter and held many meetings well attend- ded both by members and nonmembers of our church many believed and was baptized. I was next sent to Odense branch where I only stayed a short while until at April Conference Meeting in Aar- hus I was appointed as Br Chr Jensen successor as President for Aarhus Con- ference, I labored in that capacity to the best of my ability until No- vember when I was released by Presi- dent J. Taylor being requested by my Family for my release, but as my Fam- ily afterwards regretted, I was by a Telegraph Despatch from President J. Taylor requested to stay and labor in my mission until spring 3 I was then sent on a short mission to the Island Bornholm where I in company with Br N. Petersen a young Elder. held 44 meetings in the short time of 7 Weeks and we baptized 15 persons into the church. then the civil authority commenced in earnest to prosecute us for preaching the gospel and selling our pamplets to the people I was examined before the Judge of Nexo markings and was released as they could not construe the Law so they could have me arrested or banished from the Island. The Judge even went so far in his persecution that he made 40 a 50 Citizens pay a fine for having given us lodging at nigth on our travels. I stayed there until I was released to go home with the first company of Emmi- grants of the season who started from Copenhagen on May 17 and arived in Salt Lake City on June 13 1878. after I having being absent from home 2 years and a little over a Month in which time I have preached in over 250 Meetings and baptized over 40 persons into the church feeling 4 thankfull to my Father in Heaven for what I have been an Instrument in his hand by the assistance of his holy Spirit to perform notwithstand- ding all my imperfections and weak- nesses, and I do hope allways to re- main readdy and willing to perform all that I may in the future be called to do that I may gain the salvation promised to the faithfull Your Brother in the Gospel Soren Jensen [8 April 1876 to] [ 13 Jun 1878] [Soren Jensen's Mission] [to] [Scandinavia] 8 April 1876 to 13 June 1878 Soren Jensen’s Mission to Scandinavia
