Gilead Branch Co Michigan Jan 19 1877 Br Pratt Dear Sir I left home on the 9 of Nov 1876 for my Mission to the United States where I was apointed to labor was Wesconsin Northern Illinois Michigan Mmy travling companion that was apointed to labor with me was Br. Lymon Levitte we left Salt Lake 20 Nov 1876 in Company with Brother Boyl and Party we had a pleasant trip the Car we ocupied was mostly Mormons When we arived at Omahay Brother Boyl Went to his Field of Labor In the Southern States Br Levite Br Parish and My Self were then in company We arived in Chicago Nov 24 Brother Levitte and Br Parish Going in in the Country to visit there Friends I remained in Chicgo until Dec 4 when I started for Michigan where I have been ever Cince I expected to meet Br Levit in this Section of Country as he agreede to let me know where and when to meet him I wrote to him and received an answor he Stated he had been visiting and held to meetings I then wrote to him agen asking him what the Prospect for Misionary Labor was there and If I should come there as there were a very Poor Prospect of acomplishing any thing here he has not answored me So I have writen to Daniel Oyler and If there is a chance for me to acom- plish any thing I shal go ther I have advansed our Principles where ever I had an oportunity But have mot held any meetings because I hav had no oportunity the People here say they wont let a mormon have any of there houses to hold meeting in that they now all about our Prinsiples I am a young mMan and had no experience in Public Speaking for that reason I was ancious to Get in company with Br Levitte I get word from home every weak My Wifes health is very Poor She was Sick when I left home and is very Poorly now I sold my wagon horses and harness which was to be Payed in installments to my family whilst I was away The Party which I sold to has failed to Pay any thing on them. But has Brought them home Saying he would not keep them I also Sold Some Property to another Party which has Played me the Same trick For that reason my Family is destitute of means to Porveide for themsevs which makes me a little Uneasy a bout afairs at home This has been very Cold here this winter so far Snow is now about to foot deep and very Cold Pleas Inform me of any branch of the Church that has been Organised In this State Also wheather there is any One Plased to Porside over this Part of the Mission Also wheathe weare expected to Stay here longer than Spring Pleas write to me as soon as convenent and Oblige your Brother in the Gospel F.A.
