[I]n the spring of 1862 we came to Florence, Nebraska, by train, and from there we came in a church train across the plains with Captain William Dames [Dame]. William Ricks was one of the teamsters. We left Florence, late in August, but were very fortunate, as we saw snow fall before and behind us but none fell on us. We reached Salt Lake about October 27 ^th .
