Transcript for Mormon Pioneer Overland Travels Database, Thomas Augustine Dowell

Thomas initially traveled to the Salt Lake Valley in 1852 with the Parley P. Pratt Company from San Bernardino, California, as indicated in Parley P. Pratt’s Autobiography. At the end of a mission to the Sandwich Islands, Thomas traveled home from Sacramento, California, with the Frederick A. Mitchell Company in 1858, as indicated in Frederick Augustus Herman Frank’s Journal. When he arrived in California at the end of his mission, he was assigned by President Dwight Eveleth to travel around the state and gather those who were going to the Sale Lake Valley. When the company was organized, Thomas was appointed company historian. He arrived in Ogden 26 October 1858 at 11:00.
