Docket of the Municipal Court relative to the Public Revenue of the
City of Nauvoo

Regular Session February 5th. 1844
Present Joseph Smith Chief Justice, George W. Harris, George A. Smith,
and Newel K. Whitney Associate Justices Jonathan H. Hale Assessor and
Collector of the 3rd.  Ward reported six dollars and forty nine cents as delinquencies
on Personal Property (for the year 1842) and Petitioned for abatement of the same and the court
ordered the six dollars and forty nine cents to be abated.  John S. Higbee
Assessor and Collector of the 1st. Ward reported his list of Taxes for the year 1842
and petitioned for an abatement of two dollars and sixty two cents on personal
property.  Court granted the Petition.
             ½ past 1.  Court rose one hour for dinner
             ½ past 2  Court sat John T. Green Assessor and Collector of the
4th. Ward reported his list of Taxes for the year 1842 and petitioned for
an abatement of one dollar and seventy nine and a half cents on
personal property. Court granted the Petition
                Elijah Fordham Assessor and Collector of the 2nd. Ward for the
year 1842 having some time since made his report to the Clerk and
left the City said Report was presented to the court showing a deficiency
in the collection on Real and Personal Property of Eight dollars and three
cents with the prospect that a part of the same might soon be collected
without cost and the Court considering the circumstances ordered the
deficit to be abated.

The court being satisfied of the death of Lorenzo Barnes ordered an
abatement of seventy five cents for taxes for the year 1842 as assessed
against the said Barnes on Lot 1. Block 80. 1st Ward.

purchased by the Individuals whose names are set opposite the several Lots at a public sale held by
John P. Green, Marshall of said city on Monday the 19th. day of Feb. 1844 between the hours of 10 A.M. and
3 P.M. at the door of the Office of the Recorder and Clerk of the Municipal Court for tax & costs set opposite each Lot.

Regular Session   February 3. 1845
Present Daniel Spencer Chief Justice, George W. Harris, Orson Spencer,
Daniel H. Wells, Gustavus Hills, and William Marks Associate Justices.
Jonathan H. Hale, Assessor and Collector of the 3rd. Ward reported two dollars
and one cent as delinquencies on personal property for the year 1843
and Petitioned for abatement of the same and the Court ordered the
same to be abated. Daniel Hendrix reported five dollars fifty two
and a half cents as delinquencies on personal property in 2nd. Ward
and Petitioned for an abatement of the same, and the Court ordered
same to be abated. Jonathan C. Wright assessor and collector of
the Fourth Ward reported his list of taxes for the year 1843 and
petitioned for an abatement of fifteen dollars and eighty one cents
which the Court allowed, provided he still continues to pay and find
the delinquents and collect same.

February 7th. 1845  The Clerk of the Municipal Court presented a copy
of the foregoing 59 lots with their Blocks, Valuation, Amount of Tax, and
the order of the court thereon to the Marshall of the City Jonathan C. Wright
agreeable to the Ordinance thereon.

The Court abated the valuation in Ward no. 3, J.H. Hale Collector, from twenty five dollars to ten
dollars on land belonging to the heirs of James Doyle – and allowed the Collector accordingly -
Court suspended judgment on all farming lands in the bills presented and ordered the same
to be paid over bill next Session as unfinished business.  The Clerk presented a (fee) bill due the several
members of the court amounting to 188.45¾ including the present Session.  which Bill the court ordered
to be referred to the Clerk to be disposed of as he should think proper.
