fought, Look out Mountain,

Look out Point, Natural

Bridge, Rock City, Fat Mans

misery, the Peoples cemetry, the

National cemetry, whare the

union soldiers are burried,

in number 12956 a very beautiful

place kep so by the govrement

Morgan at the hotell and went with

him to his office and ware apointed

we left Chattanooga about 10 am

and took street car some mile and

half an the rest of the way a

foot my not beaing ust to walking

and the road beaing rough and

part of the way in the dark I

was very tierd never more so in

my life we met in with Brother

Fosset about 9 miles from his

place and came with him to

his place and stayed with him

the remaining part of the night

Thursday 11th  M(o)rning fine.  

Friday June 12th weather alittle

cloudy came to Brother

Alfonzo Fossets last eavning and

ware made comfertable by them

we find the bretheren very busy

with their crops hoing and plowing

they complain of being very mutch

behind with their work on acount

of so mutch rainey weather my self

and brother Robins take the hoes and

go and help Brother Alfonz Fosset hoe

Cotten in the after noon we find

it very pertekler work to hoe

Cotten when the grass has got

a good start

Saturday June 13th  weather,

some aperance of rain, we went

this morning, over to Mr bayles and

talk with sister Bailey and her

daughter giveing them some advise

come back to Brother fossets before

dinner take the mens dinner to the

field and stay with them the after

noon and hoe Cotten it being very

grassy they being short of help

in the after noon to brother Barts

Fossets and stay over night made

comfertable by them

lave Brother B Fossets to go and viset

granmother Paine and sister Jennings

who live about 4 miles to the east

on our way we stop at one Mr Carr

and take dinner they treatng us

very kindly and told us to call again

we start on our way a very crooked

Tuesday June 16th looks very mutch

like rain have considerable rain to

day we bid grandmah Pain and s(i)ter

Jenings good by and come on our

return to sister Frickets and take

dinner it being about a mile from

Mr Jennings we bid her and children

good by and come over to brother

Alfonzo Fossets arive about 5 PM

stay all night

Wedenesday 17  weather good

we go over and pay Mr Bayley a visit,

and family, sister Bayley and daughter

dolley, belong to the church we stay over

night and have a good time in chating

and come over to Brother Alfonzo

Fossets in the morning leave in the

after noon and go to Bart Fossets

June 18 Thursday  weather good

Bro Robins and my self go over to

one mr Conlys a bout 2 miles east

and meet him and a number

more in the harvest field cutting

wheat have very interesting chat

with one Mr Brooks he asking questions

about utah and how we farm and

about Polygame and anumber other

questions we return to Bro Barts

Fossets in the eavening and stay

over night

and bid them good by and start

for Brother Willgores distent about 10 miles

stop on the way at post office and get Mail, distent

about 4 miles I get no mail it has been 24 day since

I had eny word from home, I begin to fel very anxious

to hear, we come on to Bro Willgores arive about 7 PM

Wednesday June 24th weather good treated wile

at Brother Hillgoers, this is a very hilley un level

country and rocky as a general thing, I find my

self 44 years old to day, just thought of it while

writing, Bro. Robins asking me how old I was, we

spent the day at Bro Willgores

Thursday, June 25th the day some shours

I go down to seader grove Post office for

Mail and get a letter from home, folks well

     Friday June 26th  Weather warm, still

at Bro Willgores, I still feel somewhat strang

and lonesome, but felt better when I got my

letter from home and to hear they ware all 

well at home.

Saturday June 27th  weather good but warm

I take a ride with John McDaniels up to the head of

the Cove about 4 Miles in the fore noon, get

back about 10-15 AM

Sunday 28th  Weather good, Brother

Robins & myself & Bro Wilgore

hold Meating in their school

house in this place Bro Robins

Presiding have a smell turnout

have a very good time, all was still

no disturbanc

     Monday June 29th weather fine

remain at brother Willgores place

nothing spesial

     Tuesday June 30th  Morning fine

send a letter home to Father and

folks remain at bro Wilgores

Friday July 3rd we leave bro Wilgores

place bro Wilgore going with us takeing

his horse & Mule, we takeing turns riding

and goe over to Bro John Barbers, distance

about 32 Miles arive before night

Saturday July 4th  remain the more

part of the day at Bro Barbers and, go

over in the eavening to Bro Smiths and

remain til sunday after noon and come

back to bro John Barbers and stay over night

very heavy shower of rain in the night

Monday July 6.th stay most of the day

at bro Barbers, considerable rain during day

Tuesday July 7th Receive letter from my

Wife at hom and was glad to hear all was well

at home, we receive letter from Bro Morgan

that he would be here from chattanooga he came

to see us while we ware at bro Mooneys at night

Wedenesday July 8th meet Prest Morgan at

brother Smiths and remain withs him all day

he invites me to go with him to visit bro Thomas

Barber on the mountain before leaving  adminster

to sister Barber by her request and return to

bro J Barbers in the eavening

     Thursday July 9th weather good President

Morgan bid us good by and return to Chattanooga

we start to viset some of the saints living

about 5 miles north stop at Bro Mooneys for

diner leave 4-30 PM reach bro John Biggers before

dark remain all night they ware glad to see us they

are very kind to Mormon elders from Utah

Friday July 10th go over in the after noon and viset

Bro Patterson about half mile south and stay with them

over night and leave in after noon and go down the

mountain and viset Bro John Floid and wife distance

about a mile and stay over night with them

     Sunday July 12th leave Bro Floids in the morning and

come back to Bro John Barbours and have dinner and in

the after noon hold Meeting in their Meeting house with

the saints, and also straingers tohe house beaing full

good attention beaing paid throuout the meating Brother

Robins Preaching on the fall of the true church of Christ

from the days of the Apostles down to Josep Smiths day

Bro Barber making some closing remarks, go over in the

eavening and stay with bro Smith over night and return

to bro Barbers and take dinner

Monday 13th come in the after noon and

viset Brother Gabrel Barbour and stay over night

with them adminster to sister Barbour an old lady

who has been aflicted for forty years she complains of her hed

Tuesday July 14th weather warm and cloudy

leave uncle Gabrels & come back to G Barbers and stay

with them & leve this morning for rome

this morning for Rome arive at Bro Allens at night

received kindly distance from Rome about 12 Miles

Thursday July 16th remain at bro Allens

place and get aqain with the family

Friday July 17th remaine at bro Allens most

of the day leave in the eavning for Bro Mannings arive about sundown

distance about 2 ½ miles across the fields

Saturday July 18th Weather good we find ourselvs

yet at bro Manings, I write a letter home to my wife

this morning remain at bro Mannings all day

Sunday July 19th remain at bro Manings to day

and viset with the folks

Monday July 20th Weather fine bid good by to

Bro Manning and family and take our jorney for Sena

distance about 22 miles, walk to rome, I get a spring

put in my Watch cost $2.00 take Train at 1-35 PM for

Sena and arive at bro James Lawllas place about 4PM

find bro Lawllas at the Lumber yard switch

Tuesday July 21st weather good this morning

we are at bro lawllases place

Wedenesday 22nd we bid Bro Lollas & Wife

good by and go over to Bro Mitchel place distance

about 1 ½ miles, we find them will and kind to us they

have 7 children in family 5 boys 2 girls nice children

Thursday July 23rd Weather dry no rain since 4th 

we go over to bro Windemans distance about 5 miles

arive before, darke, find them at home, and ware

glad to meat us treat us kindly stay next day

with them

Friday July 24th go over in the eavning

distance [word crossed out] about 1 ½ miles and stay with

Bro Parker stay saturday and till sunday fore noon

Sunday July 26th have nice shower, rain

before leaving bro Parkers for bro Hindemans

we adminster to sister Parker she having sore

eyes caused from miasels

Monday July 27th came to bro Hindmans last

night and stay with them all day Monday larg black

cloud in the west passed to the SE looked like hevy fire in front

Tuesday July 28th Received 2 letters from my

Wife and one from my sister Delila remaine at

Bro Willson Hindmans til morning

Wedenesday July 29th we go over in the eavning

to bro Parkers & stay with them. Wrote a letter, to, home to Wife

Thursday July 30th remaine at bro Parkers all

day till eavening & go over to Bro Hindman’s and stay

with them over night

Friday July 31st Bro Robins and my self

and Bro (wm) Hindman and sister Hindman go over 

to Fish Polk Co Go from here distance 3 miles and

take dinner at Mr Morgans, and in the after noon we

go east of town about 1 mile and find a place to

Baptise and find good place close to the Railroad

track perform the Ordinance of Baptism for

Sister Morgan by her request she being

convinced of the truth of Mormonism for some time

I Baptise her and Bro Robins Confirms her on

the bank of the Crick, we return the same day to

Bro Hindmans, and stay with them over night

I find out by experianc for the first time that

it makes the Ddvil teribal mad to Baptise

any one for just after we Baptised sister Morgan

thare was one, Baptist Deacon whose nam is

in trying to raise a mob to drive us (or) kill us

out of the place, him and his Nephew (Dean) came over

to Morises a sawmil over and told what we

had done and raised all the feeling he could

against us Morris the Mill over said we

had to leave they had put up withe it long

a nuf we must leave that day, others that

ware friends came and told us they ware going to

mob us & they had gone after the Whisky, we ware

at bro Willson Hindmans who lives at the Mill

and works for Moris, so we thought it wise to

go over to bro Parkers about 1 ½ miles we go down to

Mr Cal Hindman whose wife is amorman and

stay with them over night bros Parker & Hindman

loading their Shotguns to be ready for what might

come, no one came, Bro Willson Hindman & Wife & daughter

go over to Fish on Monday and viset Mr Morgan and sister

Morgan and learn they have to move out of the house

of Deacon Phillpots

Tuesday August 4th we adminster to sister Parker

for sore eyes and bid the family good by

Bro Parker goin with us to show us the road

whare to turn of to make the road shorter to Bro

Gaineses we arive at dark all right we find

Bro Gaines & Wif and two sones and daughtersin laws

receive us kindly – Wrote a letter home to my son Neil

Wedenesday Aug 5th remain at Bro Gaines

all day

Thursday Aug 6th we start in the after

noon for Seadertown to viset Bro John Driver

who lives in Seadertown and find them we’ll

distance from Bro Gainses 3 miles

Friday August 7th we Bless bro Drivers

child a girl I being mouth we remane at

bro Drivers til Monday morning

Monday Aug 10th came from bro Drivers

to bro gaineses this morning remain over night

go over to John Ganas distant ¾ mile and take dinner and return

to bor Gansases they coming with us we bless their child a boy

bro Robins beaing mouth we remain over night and

start in the morning in to the colon to viset sister White

Wedenesday Aug 12th we call on sister White

in the colon had short talk with her she expresing

her self as beaing glad to see us give her some advise

by way of beaing prayerful and all would come out right

bid her good by and start for bro Parkers find them well

on viset remain with them over night and next day in

the after noon go over to sister Morgans find her feeling

well stay with them over night I received a letter

from my wife at home, while at bro Parkers and wrote

a letter to my wife.

Friday Aug 14th we leave sister Morgans

and start to (pay) viset [-] Bro Fransis Ganes south of Fish about

5 miles I post a letter at Fish on my way over, we

arive at bro gannses at noon stay with them over

night

Saturday Aug 15th I write a letter to my

sister Delila on Jordan to day we bid them goodby

at bro gaineses and start on our way back to the

north end of the Conference reache bro Parkers

half past 8 PM I Poste letter at Fish to my sister

Delila on our way back to Bro Parkers Distance

Sunday Aug 16th go over to Bro Hindm(ans)

and admisester to Josey she beaing sick with feaver

she gets better it is 1 mile from bro Parkers to bro Hindmans

we go over to Mr Morgans in the eavning and stay with

them over night we Adminster to their Daughter she

having soers on her face caused by Poisen from

Poisen Oake some three years ago

Monday Aug 17th we return to bro Parkers

and call at bro Hindmans on our way back, I receive

2 letters from home while at Bro Hindmans and learned

that I had the honer to be the Father of a nice Daughter

at home whitch I am very proud of whitch I would (like to see)

Tuesday Aug 18th we go over to Cal Hindman

and adminster to sister Hindman for pain in her

head and in the after noon come over to bro

Mitchels but before leaving we attend to the

Baptizing of Lucy Hindman bro Robins

Baptizing her I confirming her

Wedenesday 19th we start on our way

leaving bro Mitchels and call on sister hobs and take

dinner with her and start after dinner and (call) at bro

Lollases and Bless their baby Ann Jane by [-] I

sister Nights arive all safe find them well

and treat us kindly stay over night, 4 miles

Thursday Aug 20th we leave sister

Nits and go over to Bro John L Turners and stay

with them over night distance 2 miles

Friday Aug 21th we start this morning

on our way for Rome distance 12 miles arive at

11.A.M Bro Robins received a letter from Pres Morgan

while we ware at Fish, to be in Chattanooga on the 21th 

he receives a telegram to come on to Chattanooga he takes

Train at 3-15 P.M. and leaves me a lone at Rome

to make my way back to the north end of the

Conference, I feel my Self very lonesome and among

strangers but I feel to trust in the Lord (to) strengthen

me and make my load light I start on my way

and arive at bro Mannings at 8 PM find the old

ma(n) very low, the rest well, distance from Rome

about 8 Miles

Saturday, Aug 22nd I find my self a 

little tierd after my 20 miles walk yesterday

I stay over sunday at bro Mannings

Monday Aug 24th I coppy from

record sister Manning has the names of their

family and bro Allens, Baptisms and births

and Confirmations etc. and take with me by

request of Bro Robins and start in the afternoo for Allens

Tuesday Aug 25th stay with Bro Allens

last night treated well start for Haywoo Valey

this morning Arive at bro Barbers in the

after noon

Wedenesday Aug 26th I go in the after

noon from bro Barbers a horse back to Dirt Town

Post Office and get a letter each from my

daughters Ida and Ann whitch I was proud of

Thursday Aug 27th stay at bro Barbers

untill friday go in the after noon over to bro Mooneys

and stay with them untill Monday morning and go

over to bro barbers and stay untill after dinner and

then go over on the mountain to viset bro Gabriel

Barber stay with them over night

September 1st Monday, the morning

is nice and clear after three days cloudy and rainey

weather, I go in the after noon to Dirt Town Post Office

I receive a letter from bro Robins at Chattanooga

no letter from home I return to bro J Barbers stay

with them over night

Wedenesday Sep 3rd leave bro J Barbers

in the fore noon for to viset the saints north on

the Mountain distance about 5 miles reach

John Floides 12 M find sister Floid not very

well but better than she had been remain over

night and go in the eavening up on the mountain to bro

Biggers and stay with them

Friday Sep 5th putt in the day at bro Biggers

and untill sunday eavning and then went down the mountain

with Bro Floid and wife and stay with thim untill

Tuesday morning

Tuesday Sept 8th come up the mountain

from bro Floids to Bro patterson, stay over night

with them go in the eavning down to bro Biggers stay

with them over night go in the morning down the

mountain an take dinner with sister Floid and

Start in the after noon down the valey to bro

Barbers to see and get some mail

Thursday Sept 10th I start down

the valey to look after my mail, call at bro Mooney

receive a letter from my Daughter Margaret giving

incouraging news from home folks all well.

Friday Sept 11th stay over night with

Bro Barber go over in the after noon to Dirt

Town Post Office receive a letter from my

wife they are all well at home

Saturday Sept 12th I leave Bro Barber

this after noon for Bro smiths

Monday Sept 14th I stay saturday and

sunday nights at bro Smiths and monday and

tuersday and wedenesday

Wedenesday Sept 16th  I am still at bro

Smiths I received a letter from my sister

Delila yesterday, I Posted a letter yesterday

to my wife remain at bro Smiths untill Saturday

after noon go over to Dirt Town Friday after noo(n) for

mail but receive none I go to bro Mooneys

saturday after noon and remain with them

untill Monday fore noon and come to bro

Barbers get a horse and go to Post Office, no maile

Wedenesday Sept 23rd at bro Barbers

since monday anxiously wating to get letter

from Bro Robins to find out when to go over

to Walker Co in the cove, go on the Mountain

on friday and viset bro Gaberel Barber and go in

the after noon to Dirt Town for Male, but get none

also in the after noon Saturday get letter from

my Wife come in the eavning to bro JJ Barbers

remain Sunday Monday Tuesday and Wedenesday

send a nother letter, written by bro Barber

to Bro Robins at Chattanooga to see if we can

get any word from him what I shall doe

the last letter I got from him dated Aug 29th 

Thursday 1st Octr I have been at bro Barbers

since Monday 21st Sept, I have been waiting ever since expecting

to get word from bro Robins at Chattanooga but have

received none yet, it has bin raining since last

saturday night it is now Friday morning and still

raining it has raised the water in the stream

untill it has over flown the bottoms among the

Corn to all aperanc doing mutch damage, I refer to

the bottoms at bro Barbers

Friday Oct 2nd it is still raining this

morning I write a letter to my wife to day I go

on saturday to Dirt Town Post Office, post letter to my

wife (an)d also receive one from bro Robins informing 

me of his beaing in the Cove, and as beaing very

mutch disopointed in not meating me thare, (and)

stating that Pres Morgan had returned and also of two

more Elders being expected in the Ga conferense after

the Conference was over in Utah, my reasons for

not meating him is, I rote to him on Sep 16th to

write to me and let me know when to meat him in

the Cove but I got no answer and I got uneasy

for fear thare was something the matter with him

not thinking but he would write before he would

go to the Cove

Monday Octr 5th I go Monday morning

to Dirt Town Post office post letter to bro Robins at

Chattanooga I remain the balance of the (week) at bro

Barbers and pick Cotten intending to start

Saturday to the Cove

Saturday Octr 10th Bro Barber hitches

up his horse and buggy & he and my self start

at 8 Oclock from his place for the cove in

Walker Co we arive at bro Bart Faucets at 9 PM

we expect to meet bro Robins on our arival

but ware disopointed, we spend sunday

eavening at Mr Bayles ver agreably and go over

and sleep at bro Alfonz Faucets come in the morni(ng)

to Bart Faucets and bro Barbour start for home after

we Administer to bro Bartlet Faucet, I remain

at bros Barts go on his Mule to cedar grove after

Mail but failed to receive any

Thursday Octr 15th I still remain at bros.

Bartlet Faucets he is not well. I stayed at bros

Bartlets Faucets untill saturday eavning I received

a letter from bro Robins inforing me that

thare would be another Elder sent into the

Cove to join me perhapes on tuesday 20th I

leave bro Barts in the evening Saturday for

Brother Alfonz Faucets

Sunday Octr 18th weather good, I stay at

Bros F Faucets untill Monday morning come to bros

B. Faucet  get his mule and go to cedar grove for

maile but was disapionted

Tuesday Octr 20th received card from

Bros Robins informing the Elders had not

arived from Utah yet but ware almost sure

to no Thursday

Spencer arives at bros B Faucets last eavning

Casandra. I was pleased to meat him

I post a letter to my wife, also one to the

Post Master at Dirt Town to forward

my Mail from his office to cedar Grove

it has been two months since bro Robins

left me at Rome a lone, I have been alone

eversince 21st aug untill 22nd Octr

Saturday Octr 24rd we leave Bro

B Faucets in the after noon and go over

to F Faucets, stay with them over night

Sunday  Octr 25th acording to

previous arangements we hold

Meeting with the saints of this

During the week at Brother Kilgoers the

weather beaing rainey thare came a very

hard rain acompanied with lightning and

thunder lasting all night whitch raised

four of Brother Kilgoers Daughters Bros

SG Spencer Baptizing them, (we) confirm

Wedenesday Novr 11th we leave Tryon

in the morning had to make our way

around by way of the mountain road

on acount of the floods, having being

caused by so mutch rain fall on the

night of the 6th, one incident I should have

mentioned previous when we came to the

Chattooga River at Hammons Mill

whare the road crosses, thare was no foot

crossing it had bin carried away in the flod

and as kind Providenc ruled in our behalf

and sent along a man on a strong horse

who ferried us across and only charged us

5 cts each, we ware not delayed in wating

he came along just in time, we went on our

way rejoicing when noon came we tried

two diferent houses to get dinner but

we failed, we called on our way by

for Chattanooga to day, we all start, Brother

Kimbal & Bros Robins & my self. at. 12, M. from

Bros Morgans for Sena to sea Bros Kimbal off

for Chattanooga he bords the train at. 3,P.M. we

Brother Morgans when we reach about half

way back we take the rong road and get lost

it comences to rain and soon gets dark and we

bfore leaving, who lives in Buchannan to sea

about their emigrating we learn but little strand

Fish for Mail, I receive letter from home learn all is well

beautyful nice and clear, we are at Bros Wm

Morgans this morning we remain until morning

Monday March 15th weather is fine we come

over from Bros Morgans this morning to Bros Parkers

and write some letters, Bros Spry has some writing

Wedenesday March 17th the day is clear

we bid Bro Parker and Family good by and start for Ceadar

Town arive at Bros Drivers 11 AM find them well

but moved to another place not far from whare

they ware living, they are now living in the widow

Brooks house he failing to Emigrate with

the 18 Febuary Emigration failing to colect

his money due for his place, he cant leave until fall

we remain with Bro Driver Thursday Friday Saturday

& Sunday, Monday we took journey north of ceadertown

to call on David Hindmans sone and family living

about 1 mile north of cedar Town who had invit

over night they treated us well and invited

a little more favorable for our travling although

we found it very muddy in some places, we

cold, we take our departure from Bro Simpson

noon, the Doctor keeps Hotell in Breman

our journey back north intending to

turned a man off, he openes the gate and tells us to

Friday Aprl 8th the day is fine, it has

bin over three weeks since we had any mail we

found on our arival at Bro Morgans some 6 or 7 letters

wating whitch I took mutch pleasure in reading

found all to be well at home, we remain at Bro

Morgans untl monday, we make a trip to Rome

go by way of Sena and travel on to Bro Turners

who lives some 5 miles north find them well stay

one night with them, start next morning for

Rome distance 11 miles arive 10 AM have to be

crossed on but, the large Bridg being carried

away by the late high water whitch came on

the last of March we found a very bad smell

in Rome caused by the high water it reaching

into the second story of meny of the buldings

we leave this morning for Sena in company with Pres

Anderson a tall young Man with one eye, call on us

he seemed to be very interested in our talk, we invite

doctrin we remain with Bro Parker over night

Colorado he leavs Thursday 9.A.M for Seney he

to come to Bros Turners before dark, among the number

ware Mr Fornby the owner of the plantation and his Broth

-ering-law, also 3 others living on the plantation and others

of the same neighbourhood making 10 men 5 women

with their children, we had good atention all seemed

interested and paid strict atention to what was said

Bro Spry wished me to take charge, we had singing

prayer by Bro Spry singing, I was the first speaker

atending the Methodist Meeting and ware kindly

treated by them they have one daughter 7 or 8 years old

I had forgoten to mention that the Preacher was very

urgent on his Congregation to be aware they ware not

deceived and stated before coming to Meating he had

his text selected but after coming and seeing his

Audiance he had decided to change it, he would

take the 6 chapter of Galatians, it seems the

change was caused by our beaing present

Friday May 21th Bro Spry and I go over to Bro

John Snow at Moris & Tracys Mill stay with them

over night find them well Bro Snow feeling well

in the Gospel come back to Bro Morgans in the

fore noon remain until tuesday after noon go

over to Dock Hindmans stay with them over night

Wedenesday May 25th we start for Cutloy

Pond distant 3 Miles, we had visated thare the week

previous Sister Hobbs lives thare she says thare are

a number thar would like to hear us preach we find on

our arival, the 2nd time John Brooks had forbiden them

letting us hold Meeting in their houses, if eny let us preach

in their homes they would be turned off, we learn thare

are some thare very bitter and telling some notorious falshoods

them well as comon, we went with the entention of holding

meeting, but learning the Methodis ware holding Meeting 

we thought wise to postpone our holding Meeting untill

some other time, we remained with Bro turner too nights

and then returned to seney calling at sister Nights

stay with them overnight and the next night we stay with

one Mr Bennet and Wife and 4 children they seem much

interested in our doctrin we take lave of them call

at sister Nights, wait for mail in the after noon and

go to Bro Morgans sunday eaving stay till Friday

Robins he failed to put in an aparance, we stayed while

at Seney one night at Henry Lawlas & one at Mr Nights, not

knowing when we might meet Bro Robins we came back to

Sister Morgans and get caught in a sevier rain and get 

some what drenched find sister Morgan and Family well

Oon the 25th we go over to Mr D Hindmans find

him and Wife well stay over night with them treated kindly

by them on the 26th in the after noon start for Cedartow(n)

distance 6 miles, arive at Bro Drivers in the eavning find

them well as comon, and glad to see us we stay with

them over night and Sunday and Sunday eavning and

Monday until near eavning, when we by invitation call on

one Mr Calley and Wife and 3 children and stay with

them over night ware treated kindly, we talk till

11 at night they seem favorable to our doctrin, and

invite us to be sure to call on them again, we come

June Wedenesday 30th looks mutch like rain

this morning, the last month has bin an unusual

wet month, we go this after noon to Seney, on our

way near half the distance betwen Bro Morgans and Shefields

Mill coming on the Shefield tram road we meet Bros

Robins & Bro Murphy. we had a pleasant time together

we return on our way back to Bro Morgans spend the

after noon in pleasant chat remain over night and all next 

day & night it rains all night and all morning it holds

up alittle and we all start on our way come as far as paris

and Taylor Mill together, Bro Robins our President

thought best to make a change in our travling together

we draw straws who goes with bro Murphy and who with him

it falls to my lot to travel with Bro Robins, Bro

and has every aperance of rain before night, in

notising the crops as we travle along we can see

at Bro Smiths while thare it comes up a heavy

shower of Rain, it begins to look very gloomy

for the Farmers this season, it looks as the

Lord was going to fulfill some of the promises

we are all at Bro Smiths at noon, went over to

Friday July 9th the morning is very foggy but

soon passes away, Bro Robins and I prepare for a start South

again on the Coosey River to be thare on sunday to atend

Meeting whitch was agreed upon with Bro Mooney to give

out the apointment, we come to Bros Allens in the eavning

stayed over night and came on the next morning by way

of rome, arive at Bro Moneys 5.P.M find all well

Sunday July 11th morning clear, 11.A.M we go

to the house prepared with seats by Bro Mooney to

hold our Meeting, we find we have only 3 persons to atend

besides Bro James Mooney and Family and Bro John Mooney

and Family Bro Robins Presiding. one Man Mr Leming

who is blind and a intelegant man, and one Man a Relative

of his and one Woman was all out side of our selvs

we spend the day at Bro James Mooney Writing and

and reading in the eavning go over to Bro John

be rain before night no rain to day we remain at Bro John Mooney

all day Writing and reading

Wedenesday July 14th no rain to day, remain all day

until eavning reading and writing at Bro Jo Mooneys, come in

Thursday July 15th the sky looks smooky and

cloudy to day, no rain in this part remain over night in the

fore noone go over to RR station post some letter return

distance 8 Miles in the after noon we go over to one Mr

Lemings who had atended one of our Meetings and invited

us to com and visit him he has a Wife and 9 children

he has lost his Eye sight they treated us kindly the short

time we sayed with them, we return the same eavning

d(r)y weather, we are sill at Bro James Mooneys this morning

pass the day in reading and writing

Sunday July 18 the day is fine, we had

arangements for Meeting at 4-30 PM we wait till

5 PM thare ware 3 men and 2 Women present out side

of Bro James and John Mooney Familys and our selvs

in the eavning we take leave of Bro James Mooneys and

come over to Bro Johns stay with them ovir night start

after breckfast 6 Oclock for Fish come by way of Cut-

Log Pond call on Sister Hobs who was glad to see us

prepared us a bite to eat after chating a while we

start at 6 PM for Bro Readings who is farming on Mr

start for Seney for Mail call at sister Nights take dinner

Thursday July 22nd weather alittle cloudy some aperanc(e)

of rain, Elders Robins Murphy Spry and I Meet here this morning

at Mr D Hindmans at Parris & Taylor Mill, to council pertaining

our future labours, we all get to gether deside to hold Meeting

at D Hindmans Sunday 25th thare being afew in this

neighbourhood who want to be Baptised we all set

to work to prepare a place to Baptize in we find

a Pond near Cal Hindmans we construct a platform

and sinkit by geting no top of it and then driving some

stakes and piling some rocks on, after compleating this

job we turn to and put seats in and old house

to be ready for our Meeting, this compleats our work

after Bro Robins and Spry goes to Seney Bro Murphy

remain over night at D Hindmans

Friday July 23rd fine morning, we start this

morning for Cedar town (Bro Murphy [-] and I) to let

Bro driver and other know of the Meeting, we arive at

Bro Drivers in the the fore noon find them all well and glad to see

us, we hold meeting at Bro Drivers the same eavning, have a

nice little croud. some 20 I think, who gave good atention, Bro

Murphy Presides, I was called upon to open by prayer we sang

Bro Murphy spoke first spoke of the Gospel being restored

Saturday July 24th the day is fine we take leave

of Bro Drivers in the after noon for Bro Wm Morgans distance

from Ceadar Town 5 miles, we came on the Railroad track

on our arival found Bros Robins & Spry thare we all remained

over night

Sunday July 25th has evry aperance of rain in

the morning but does not rain to day clears all off, we all leave

Bro Morgans and come over to Paris & Taylors Mill, we have 2 Meetings

apointed for the day one for 10 AM and one at 2 PM and Baptizing after

Meeting Bro Robins presiding, we hav good turnout of the Saints

and quite afew out siders, we had (a) quiet time no disturbance

and all seemed well pleased and well paid for their coming

after Meeting we all go to the Pond little north of Cal Hindmans

to atend to the Ordinance of Baptism we have singing and Prayer

I have the honor of going down in to the water and Baptizing

sister Ellen Hindman and her Sone William after we return

to Meeting (house) to confirm them, we atend to this ordinance

Bro Murphy is Mouth on the head of sister Hindman

Bro Spry on the head of William Hindman Meeting

is dismissed and we all goe our way rejoicing

Baptists Meeting one mile south of Cedar

Wedensday Aug 18th the weather is

very warm and dry we are at sister Nights while

writing

Thursday Aug 19th after the Mail arived in

the after noon, we started for Spring Creek distance

some 5 miles north to visit Bro Turner arive in

the eavning find them all well, start on our

return after breakfast to Seney on our way

call at Thomas Williams and take dinner

with them find the wife very favorable to our

and next day writing in the eavning call on Bro Monroe Hindman stay over

night they are pleased to see us we come back to sister Morgans stay until

eavning then start for Bro Readings hearing his Wife was sick get

thare in the eavning find them all well remain over Sunday

with them no Meeting Monday morning come over to D Hindmans

Wedenesday Sept 1st weather fine left Bro Jonston

after dinner and came to Nr Nights at Seney find them all well

and pleased to see us, and learn of the earth quake shock last

night, we hear severl rumers of damage being done in severl diferent

places, of the Hotell in Cedar Town being ruined and of the city of

Charlston SC being sunk all but about 100 houses and they

are under water all but anuff to see to count them and it still

sinking a City I (am) told of some 500,00 inhabitance, we can see the

words of the Saveor being fulfilled very plain

Friday Sept 3rd clear sky this morning nights much

cooler, I have herd some of the reports about the Earth quake are false

not true of the Hotell in Cedartown being ruind, and have herd that

Charlston SC was not sunk but all but 100 houses ware gratly damag(ede)

and meny lives lost we herd they had found over 60 that ware

killed, with more of the ruins not searched

Sunday Sept 5th the weather is fine and pleasant

acording to previous arangements with Bros Johnston for holding

Meeting at hin place on Sunday morning 10 AM we met in the

house he had prepared with seats Bro Spry weshed me to preside

take dinner with Bro Johston and after, ware invited by Mr Hamil(ton)

to go and stay with him over night, whitch we did and ware kindly

treated came over after breakefast to sister Nights to doe some

writing found them all well, intend going this eavning to Bro

Mitchels we came to Bro Mitchels find the family all well remain

with them over night after Breakfast come on our way to

Wimerly Hill to Bro Morgans find them all well, coming

on our way we came by Paris & Taylors Mill plase, call at

Mr D Hindmans, find they ware from home we came on

to Bro Morgans

Wedensday Sept 8th the weather is clear and

dry, we ware called on today by note from one Mrs nat

Hindman whose husband has bin very bitter, to call

and see them they have a sick baby, we did so and spent

the most of the after noon with them did not administer to

the Ba(b)y as we felt it was not seriously sick, she said if it

got worse she would send for us we promis to come

Ritchisons Mill whose Husband is very bitter to

the Mormon faith to administer to their Baby

& little girl who has a very sore toe some 14 months

none of them belong to our church we return the

from the NW about noon shortly after hevy rain

we go in the after noon over to Bro Monroe Hindm(an)

and stay over night. return in the morning to Bro

who came from Cedar Town, they ware out on a hunt

also quite a number of others, singing Prayor by Elder

at depo & all come into Rome & have dinner at the

Chitwood & Jones Mill whare thare is three Families

Daughter Etty May in bed sick but was better next day

Friday Octr 8th the day is fine, I half sole

my shoes to day the first I ever tried to doe, I

way for Coosey Vill we intend calling at Wm Hindmans

one mile north of Cedar Town perhapes stay over

find them will & glad to see us, we remain with them

over night shortly after we reached thare it comenced

on my way for Seney distance 18 miles reach

I stay at Henry Lawless over night his wife

Nancy having bin Baptized since I was ther(e)

last some 3 weeks since, I find sister Nights

feeling bad & in much trouble her husband

having bin intoxicated for 4 days, they just

as she gets out of the Bugy he starts back for

Seney, it being near dark he met just north

of Seney 4 men all drunk, they all get into

a row get to throwing rocks, Mr Nights gets

hit on the head with one whitch nocks the

sences out of him for some time he also

was cut twice under the chin, while on the

battle ground his soninlaw H Lawless, came

& found him got him into his Buggy & sent

him home that night thare was a dance at

Mr Clabes north of Seney 1 mile thare was a larg

croud from Seney they had lots of whiskey &

plenty of fights thare was I was informed

some 5 or 6 that night no one serously hurt

I think Seney a very corupt little town for

drunkness & rows

he is out trying to sell his horse Boston by name

of rain to day we bid Mr Nights & Sister Nights good

by at daylight they going to Rome with Cotton to sell

also to do some trading preparitory to going to Colorado

I also bid Elder Ritch good by he remaining to look

after & see that Mr Nights & Family got off for Colora(do)

I starting at 6.30 AM for the coosey River to look after

Bro Mooneys welfare arive at 3 PM find the Family all

well, the distance from Seney here 18 miles the day was

Saturday Novr 13th clear with north

wind cool nights, I found on my arival last

eavning Bro Mooney had received an answer to

our letter we had written to Bro Killgore from

sister Killgore. Bro Killgore having gone from

home, she stating they have no money by them

but if Bro Mooney could get it from the Office

at Chattanooga they would replace it after they

sold their place, the Money I sent home for $100[-]

I hav not herd from as yet, takeing al things into

consideration we thought it best for Bro Mooney

to remain untill Febuary, the time being so short

for him to complete his business and make the necessary.

Sunday Novr 14th the weather is fine to day

to our great surprise Pres Morgan & wife payed us a viset

here at Flo on the Coosey River they came from Chatt

to Rome by Railway from thare with (a) Horse & Buggy arived

about 4 PM he came to arange some Emigration matters concerning

Bro Mooney & Family to see how mutch money Bro Mooney

could raise & told him if he could raise $75 to come on & they

at the Office would do what they could for him Pres

M informed me the Money I sent home for had come

to the Office, Pres Morgan & Wife had to return to Rome the

same eavning to take train for Atlantah to be thare the next

morning at 9 AM we bid them good by at dark, we went to

work in earnest to prepare boxes & to settle up the business

Monday Novr 15th Bro Mooney went to have a

settlement with Mr Wilkison & to sell out his crop & cow he

could only sell what cotton he could geather out & that was

not mutch as he only had 2 days left to geather it in & Wilkison

would not give him one nicle for what was lef in the field not

let him give it to enyone else to gether so he lost at least ¾ 

of a Bale lift in the field & for 1000 lbs cotton & his cow only

$18 the cotton was seed cotton the half being his we suceded

in getting all things ready after a hard strugle and working

all night Tuesday we started on Wedenesday morning at 8AM

Mr Wilkins taking his horse team to hall the boxes & Wife & 4 of

the smallest children he is very careful of his team the distance

to Rome up the river is 9 Miles we reached thare about 12M

at the depo, found on our arival Bro Driver & Wife with their

two children ready & that far on the road to Colorado &

at about 3 PM Bro Ganus & his Family, Wife 4 boys & one

grand child daughter of his son Frank that far on thier way for Collor(ado)

Thursday Novr 18th thare was a terable

heavy rain in the after noon yesterday causing  our people

some of them to get quite a soaking, this morning

at 6 AM the Train arived bringing Elder Rich

& his croud, Mr Nights, Wife & 6 children those that

had waited all night at the depot borded the same

Train all in the same Carr together for Colorado

we bid them goodby & we remain in Rom untill eavning

when we take Train at 11 PM for Seney arive near 11 PM

call at Mr Henry Lawless for a few minets then go on

our way 1 mile father on to Bro Mitchels stay with

them the remaining part of the night & owing to having

bin so busy with the Emigration loosing two nights

sleep we did not rise untill 9 the next morning after

dinner we came back to Seney for mail after whitch

we came on our way to he Wimberly hill distance 8 Miles

call & stop with Bro Morgan

hard all the after non & fore part of the night, we had Meeting

apointed for 10 AM at Bro Morgans, thare was not meny

present however we comenced our Meeting Elder

fed & the spirit of the Lord felt in our Meeting, in the

after noon we held Sundy School & and had a nice

quiet time together, some of the saints in this

branch seem very carless about atending to Meeting

Elder Murphy left this morning intending to go into

Lafayett Co Ga to look up Geneologies of his friends

he goes to cedar Town this morning & Bucannon this after noon

we remain at Bro Morgans to day writing up our journal

& letters home, we remained at the Wimberly Hill untill Friday

Friday Novr 26th we started in the forenoon

for Seney arive at 1 PM receive our mail from home, I was much

surprised on learning from the Office Chatt. that Bro Mooney

& Family ware sent to Spanish Fork, we stoped with Mr

Hamilton saturday we started over to Spring Creek to

James Lawless & take dinner, in the afte noon go to Post Office

for Mail return to Bro James Lawless stay with them over night

treated kindly & hear while writing, intend starting this after noon

for the Wimberly Hill, after dinner we take leave of Bro Lawles

& Wife go by way of Seney & receive letter from my Wife

informing me of the arival of Bro Mooney & Family to

Spanish Fork. they having Emigrated from the

Coosey River 9 miles below Rome, the letter stating

Bro Mooney & Wife & the small children ware at my place

& the larg girls ware at Wm Jex & the 2 Boys had gone on to the City

Monday Jan 3rd  after Elder Stratford

& Madson had bid the Saints good by we

all start for Seney reach thare in the after

noon Elder Rich & Stratford go by way of

the Post Office for Mail Elder Madson & my

self call at Bro Hamiltons we remain with

them over night Elder Rich & Stratford

goes over to Brookses Mill & stay with Bro

Mitchel we all meet in the morning at

Bro Hamiltons, & soon all start, Elder

to Seney in the after noon call at Mr H Lawless

have dinner & go in the eavning & stay with Bro

Friday Jan 7th the weather is very

disagreable cloudy & raw, after dinner we

start on our way for Cedar Town, we call at

Mr Crawleys & stay over night ware treated kindly

Saturday Jan 8th to day it has evry

aperance & feels as though it would snow at noon

we call at the Post Office for Mail & go on our way

north one and halfe miles to Mr Wm Hindmans

on our arival find his Father & his Fathers new

Wife he has just married only 15 the 23 last Near

& his Sister Lusey we all stay one sunday it 

rains nearly all day we have quite pleasant

time

Monday Jan 10th the wind comenced in

the night to blow from the north making it

very cold and disagreable after dinner we bid

the Family good by & start for Cedar Town call

for Mail but receive none call on Mr Crawley

stay with them over night treated kindly

after breakfast bid them good by & come on our

way past the Iron works find Mr Crawley

at work bid him thanks & good by & come

on our way to Doctor Foots some 8 miles

west of Cedar Town have some trouble to

find the Doctors he lives so far in the back

woods but after enquering meny times we arived safe

Wedenesday January 12th the morning

is clear & looks like Spring the wind is blowing some

we are while writing this morning at Doctor Foots

Thursday Jan 20th heavy wind from

South to day & clouds flying, the weather for

the last week has bin moderate with frost

at night, Doctor Foot came home on Satur(day)

& was called off on Sunday again leaving

us with the Family & to make his home

our home, whitch we have not failed to

do up to this time, spending the eavning

from eleven Oclock untill one, in Fire

side Preaching, to his Family & the neigh(bours)

who callea in to hear us talk, we have

had one mss Jentry & her two sones the

oldest Rorey, &, Andrew the next, to hear us

& to invite (us) to come & see them, whitch we

think of doing this eavning all beaing well

Friday Jan 21st The Doctor returning

home last eavning, we failed to go to visit Mrs

Jentry, we had, to pay us a visit, one Mr Hoge, frm

Rockmart, a merchan & School Teacher, he

said he had seen some of our Elders before, &

read some of their Books & they had stoped

with him, he profess(ed) to be hard to handle on

the Scriptiers, so we ware informed by Mrs

Foote, who has had long aquaintance with him

he is well read in the Bible, & claimes it to

Be the spirit of God & all man can get, when

he reads the word that is the spirit to the reader

we had some strong argument on Baptism

for the Dead, he claiming such thing canot

be done, we refer him to meny pasages in the Bible

to prove it has bin done and would be, Elder Rich

read from the Voice of Warning treating on the

Kingdom of God, it seemed to strik him favora(ble)

this closed the talk, it being nine oclock him &

Doctor Foote went over to sit up with the Dead his

Brotherinlaw Mr Pryor a Deaf Mute, who Died

from cramp Collic, sick som 36 hours, a neighbour (of the Doctors)

Saturday Jan 22nd we came to

Mrs Jentrys & stayed last eavning she has

3 sons & one daughter whitch  ware all at home

thare came to spend the eavning a young man

Robert Wheeler, we had a plesant time, we

remained untill after noon, when we had call

on us Mr Foote & with him two of his old friends

wishing, wishing to hear us preach, whitch we willing(ly)

agreed to do, the Doctor said we could preach in his

house, & sent word around to the neighbours

we had to listen to us some 30 persons & had fine

time, they kept good order dring the Meeting & all

seemed well satisfied & paied for coming

While we ware at Mrs Jentrys Oreah Foote came

from the Post Office bringing our Mail & to

my surprise a letter from the Office at Chatt

from our president, (Elder John Morgan) inform(ing)

me of my release to return home on the 1st of March

with the company of Saints Emigrating to

Colorado, whitch was unexpected to me

I was not looking for my releace untill in

June, the Notice was dated Jan 14th1887

we remained at Waltin G Footes Sunday it being

rainey most all day & the fore part of the night

Monday in the after noon, we tak leave of. Doctor Foots

& come by way of Mrs Jentrys to enquire the way to Mr

Wheelers who lives one Mile south east, we come on

the way find Mr Wheeler at a neighbours, who saw us to

his place take us in treat [word crossed out] us very kind & said

he was glad we had called on him, we talked on the

principals of our faith & sang some of our hims whitch

pleased them very much untill 12 PM when we retired

for the night

Tuesday Jan 24th the sky is clear ground

white with Frost this morning, the wind rises, comes from

the sourth, after breakfast we take our departure from

Mre Wheelers & come on our (way) to Esom Hill for Mail

& come on our way back to the Doctors Footes, arive

1.30. P.M. find the family pleased to see us, we

remain at his plase till Friday, siting up every night

from eleven untill one in the morning talking on the

principals of the Gospel to the neighbour, that call

in to hear us talk, we go on friday eavning & stop with

Mrs Jentry who treat us kindly, after breakfast go to

Easom Hill for Mail while thare have long

talk with one Mr Carns & others who geather

at the Store to hear us defend our doctrin

they want a Sign that they may have somet(hing)

to convince them, they say Christ showed merical

to convinse the People in his day, we tell them

Christ told them in his day thare should be

no sign given only the Prophet Jones as he was

three days in the Whales Belly so the Sone of

Man would be three days in the bowels of the

earth and he told them it was a sure sign that

wicked & adultorious Jeneration, we leave after

the mail cam feeling we had done some good

and alayed much prejudis that had existed in

their minds. we came back to Mrs Jentrys & after

late dinner go over and stay with Mr Benjmin Wheeler

this being Saturday eavning on Sunday we have

4 Men call to talk we have some sharp shooting

whitch dont last long. they soon leave they find

they cant stand the pressure the truth is to

much for then (to) face

the eavning we leave Mr Wheelers & come to Dr Footes

and talk on the Gospel untill midnight

Monday Jany 31st Elder Rich & the

Dor Foot start for a trip in to Alabam

the Doctor to visit some of his patients Elder

Rich ges with him by his request thinking

thare can be an opening made thare for the Elders

to stop and preach, the distance from here is 20 miles

they return Wenesday eavning reporting they had a good

tim and that thare ware parties thare that wanted

to heare, I remained at the Doctors during their

stay holding the fort here & preached one eaving

untill between eleven & twelve Oclock to the Doctors

Family & Rorey Jentry & Robert Hoge, they confess

the Gospel was made the plainest to them

they ever herd bfore, that thare was nothing

unreasonable I had said during the eavning

we have remaned at the Dr during the week

preaching fire side preaching to the neighbours

as they call in the eavning to hear what we

have to say for ourselvs as a people & to see what we look like

Wedenesday Feby 9th it looks favorable

for rain & has for several days, we remained

at Dor Footes during the balance of the week

and on Sunday it was given out we would

hold Meeting at the Doctors House at 2 PM

but thare was only one young man came

at that hour & at half past 3 thare ware

To more young men came, they ware boys

of the near (est) neighbours, this being all we

consequently held no Meeting, the Doctor

took pains to send his sone all over the

neighbourhood and he him self while out

visiting his patients notafyed the People

of the Meeting, it all failed our pains for

nothing. it seems the People will not have

the Gospel, we went Monday eavning

and stayed with Mrs Jentry & her Sones

untill Tuesday eavning from thare to

Mr Wheelers Mr Wheeler was absent from

home, a neighbour an aged man Rodgers

by name came to spend the eavning Mrs

Wheeler perswaded to stay over night

to visit sister Hobs stay with them over night

we bid Bro James Lawless & Family goodby.

start for Seney, take the 1.15 PM for Atlanta

arive all OK some time after 3 PM thare

who arived saturday eavning, & Heber C C Rich

& N Gardner, we Regester at the grant

house terms $1.50 per day we remain on 24 hours

the weather is very unfavorable while in

Atlanta raining during the whole time of

our stay, we traveld round in diferent pats

of the City to take in the sights, the Atlant

Cemetry is the most butifal sight I have

seen since leaving home, I cant do it justis

in trying to discribe it, after satisfing our

selve we returned to our Hotell, it is some

two miles from the Hotell

Wedenesday Feby 23rd we take the

12.15 PM train for Seney, arive after 3 PM

we all stay with Mr Henry Lawless, wait the

untill the arival of the after noon Train to

Alabama to his field of labour after

which we come to Henry lawless get our

satchels and start for Wimberly Hill

on our way we call on Bro Munroe Hindm(an)

& Bro Reding they being at the Paris & Taylors

old place we come on to Calvin Hindman

go over to Richisons Mill stay with Bro

Hamilton & Mr D Hindman over night com

ing the next morning Sunday, to sister Morg(ans)

Bro Hamilton fetching Mule & Buggy we

load on Etty Mays Box and my valieses

and bid the folks good by, all the Elders

Etty May & Bro Hamilton & Wife comeing

to Seney, on Monday we all turn in and

March Tuesday 1st the day is fine

at home I find quite a gethering of relative

& others, I find they had made it to play

a trick on me, my Baby I had not seen

they met me with Reans my sisters I stall

theme it is Reans next they bring Elzabaths

Bro Henry Wife, I tell them it is Elzabath

thare are several more in the rom I tell them

it was a joyful meeting to me, this was

Sunday- after noon, on Monday eavning

my relatives and friends got up a surprise

for me by way of fine supper and dance. during

the eavning thare ware rendered songs and

resitations all passed of well and all

seemed to enjoy themselvs untill twelve

oclock at night when all seperate and go

to their homes, nothing hapning to mar the

peace of eny one during the time of our being

together, all was a sucess
