. . . untill April 10th 1865 then went on board the Big Mexicanna with 45 other saints on rout[e] for Utah, with Bro Miner G. Atwood as Captain of the Company. We crossed the plains with Ox teams and walked all the way and had to stand guard every other night, on account of the Indians been so troublesome; we had one little scrimage with them which resulted in the wo[u]nding of some of they Brethren and one of the sisters been carried away.

We arrived in Salt Lake City on the 8 of November 1865 after a weary some Journy of near 7 months, you must know that our hearts rejoiced to see this place.
