I, Peter Nilsson was born in Sodra Rorum on the 18^th of November 1840. I was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ the 14^th of May 1854. I was then 13 ½ years old. My parents and the whole family were baptized. My oldest sister Else traveled to Copenhagen that same summer together with some others who had accepted the gospel. Stenstrom and son and Nilla and sister and mother and brother Pehr. The next winter 1854 my father and I went to Copenhagen. The lake was frozen over so we walked on foot from Malmo to Copenhagen in one day and found my sister living in Adelgaden and she worked at Nyhams factory. We were there for a couple of days. Then my father went home and I stayed and started to work at the factory. About the year 1855 my parents sold their home and came to Copenhagen. My father worked as a brick layer during the summer and at the end of that year 1855 on the 5^th of December we left for America. There were 700 immigrants and we went on a steamship to Kil then on the railroads to Hamburg and from Hamburg to Hull, England and then on the railroad to Liverpool and we were there a couple of days in Liverpool and from Liverpool we went on a large sailing ship and it had 3 sails. The weather was very difficult. We sailed against the wind and we were on the sea for 11 weeks. There were 51 people who died. Most of them were old people and children. We came to New York the 28^th of February 1856. we left for Chicago and came to Burlington Iowa. We went across the Mississippi river on the ice and came way out in the county about 5 miles from the city to a couple of young Swedes. His name was Adolf Nyborg. We were there about a month until the end of March. That is when my sister Elna died and was buried there. We were there the whole summer of 1858 when we left and went to Omaha. We could not find work there so we went back to Council Bluffs and were there during the winter and the next year 1859 we left for Utah.
