Early in 1857 Elder Chas. Shill was appointed president of the Elders Quorum in St. Louis. He chose me for his first councilor. I labored in all these offices until June 1857 when Elder Snow disolved the St. Louis Stake of Zion and placed it as a branch. I then with my family 4 in number started for G S L City, arrived in Florence, N.B. For I was enrolled in the St. Louis Company. They joined with the delaware Company  of Saints under the Captainship of Jacob Hoffines. We altogether numbered 40 wagons proceeded on our journey with the usual difficulties attending. Such a trip on one occasion there was a stampeded injuring several persons & lost about 50 head of cattle however we arrived in GSL City in due time.
