RETURNED.—We had a visit yesterday from Elder E. H. Bird, lately returned from his mission to England. Elder Bird left this city on the 17 th of May, 1862, and arrived here last Sunday. He worked his passage part of the way across the plains as a member of the "bull-whacking" profession. This train came by a new route called the "Pole Creek route," by way of Fort Halleck and Bitter Creek, which he says is the worst road he ever saw.

Elder Bird became sick at "the meadows," 250 miles from here, and had to leave the train and come on by other means. He is in excellent spirits, and speaks highly of his late mission. We are glad to welcome him home.
