[page 103] I, David W. Garnet, son of William Garnet, which was the son of Jeremiah Garnet, and my
mother being Sophia Griswold, daughter of Alen Griswold, was born December 4th, 1812, in the township of Otsego,
county of Otsego, and state of New York. I was married in the year 1832 on the 17th day of August to Hannah P.
Hyde, the daughter of Gustavus Aldolphus and Polly Hyde of the county and state aforesaid. I heard for the first time
the sound of the everlasting gospel in 1835 and was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by
Libbeus T. Coons, and when confirmed was ordained an elder under his hands. I was in Missouri, but did not get
there in time to share with the brethren in their tribulations.
I came to Nauvoo the next spring after it was settled [1840], but never traveled to preach the gospel until
then, after which I traveled 11 months in Indiana and Michigan in company with William Loveland and baptized forty
on that mission. I heard the last discourse that Joseph Smith preached before his martyrdom, but did not see his body
after he was slain. I know there is power in the priesthood for I have seen devil cast out, the dropsy healed, and a
living witness to the same and may the Lord give his Saints more power and speedily scourge the blood of the
martyred Saints and Prophet, that their blood may no longer cry for vengeance to fall on their enemies. I add no more
at this time. David M. Garnet. Recorded by Bradford W. Elliott, August 15, 1845.
