Transcript for Shill, Charles Goulding, Autobiography, 3

I was in St. Louis about two years, then crossed the plains in 1857. In the St. Louis Company Jacob Huffines was appointed Captain, but he was so tyrannical we could not travel with him in peace. James H. Hart was appointed Captain. Brother Hart was a good man with the confidence of the people. I was appointed Chaplain by Brother Hart.

We landed in Salt Lake City, September 27, 1857.
