In May 1863, we embarked for America in a sailing vessel. We were four weeks on the water and landed safely in New York, and were taken to Castle Gardens. We took a train that same night for St. Joe, Missouri. After we arrived there, we were anxious to see a camp of Indians, and we walked down by the river some distance to see them; they being the first we had ever seen. We went by boat to Florence and were met there by an ox-train sent from Utah to carry the Mormon emigrants to the valleys of Utah. We were nine weeks making the trip. We always rested on the Sabbath day.
