. . . in the month of May 1861 we left Clinton, Pennsylvania for Utah. Mr. Job Pingree of Ogden was our Captain. A company of forty (40) wagons arrived in Salt Lake City on 10 Sept 1861. We had very little sickness and no deaths or accidents. We had one more added, as my cousin, Thomas Murray, was born somewhere near the Platte River. Many a night around the campfire I tended him, and 60 years later I helped to place him in his coffin.
