I then took charge of a company of teamsters in a goods train, and drove a 4 yoke ox-team across the plains which took up 4 months

We were attacked by a roving band of Shian [Cheyenne] Indians on the 14th Augt at Pole Creek, foot of the black hills: one of our teamsters was killed, & 5 horses & 3 mules driven off in open daylight

Arrived at Great Salt Lake City 8th Oct 1865.
