We emigrated to Utah June 7–1867. we were three days on the North sea. before we reached England. From there we traveled by rail to Liverpool. we stayed there four days.

we then went aboard the Steamer Manhatten arriving in New York. July 4th. but had to remain on the ship until the next morning because the 4th. was a holiday. There the Custom Officers inspected our clothing and took our names. we then continued our journey by rail and in 7 days we reached North Platte. There we got our Oxen and wagons to take us the rest of our journey across the Plains. But the Indians were so bad. they destroyed our provisions. burning them. they tore up the rails destroying the track so we were detained three weeks. but in that time the Rails were replaced and we continued on our journey, under Captain Rich [Rice]. we walked 18 or 20 miles each day on our way across the Plains. we were well and very thankful to our Heavenly Father for the health we enjoyed and his protecting care over us. during our intial trip across the Plains.

we arrived in Salt Lake City October 5 – 1867.
