Being driven from our homes our outfit was not what would be desired. Through the kindly aid of Bro. Levi North, he being something of a mechanic aiding me, I put up the wood work of a wagon. There is one incident I will relate. After getting my wagon ironed I left it standing near the blacksmith shop and started away. I had got some distance away when I felt that I must go back and move the wagon away from the house. The next morning I went with a team and found the shop burned down and everything near by. I looked upon this as a warning.
My team consisted of one yoke of steers and one yoke of cows, for myself, wife and mother. We crossed the plains in Captain Allen Week's Company, the last company of the season. On the Platte bottoms the cholera struck our company, and we lost several with that complaint. We arrived in Salt Lake City October 10th, 1852.
