In 1849 my uncle, Jacob G. Bigler came to Quincey [Quincy] and took my mother and her four children to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where we remained until the spring of 1850, at which time we started to cross the great plains and rocky mountains for Salt Lake City, where we arrived in September of that year.
