Transcript for Wharton, Irvine McBride, Application for Membership, The Society of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, 14 May 1923

When I was about 18 years of age, I left Scotland and started for Utah[.] we were in captin Willis’es company, but he proved himself unworthy as such, and caused much delay and unneceary trouble taking from us our belonging, causing much suffering. While on the plaines a young mother in our company was very ill so I let her take my place, and helped her with her baby, and I walked most of the way. this young woman called me to her death bed and asked me to mother her baby which I did[.] some years later I married the father.
