"My work portrays the striking contrast of the bright beacon of light against an impending storm. It also portrays the pure light of Christ. By emulating our Savior, we are more able to "arise and shine forth." I am partial to oil paints because of their spiritual application. In watercolor one mistake can ruin a whole piece; in oil a mistake can always be painted over as if it never happened—a lot like repentance, which allows our sins to be remembered no more. I find strength and hope in the symbolism of this lighthouse scene. The lighthouse is Christ; the white light is purity; the rocky shore is a firm foundation; the storm is the pressures of the world; and the lighthouse stripes teach that “with his stripes we are healed.”"
