"When I ponder what “arise and shine forth” means to me, I imagine a light burning forth from each of us, fueled and lit by the lights of those around us, and spreading like fire around the world through missionary work. I chose the image of the phoenix in the fire to suggest a "rising from the ashes" of those who accept the gospel with the responsibility to share it. I cut out words from newspapers to display the wickedness and tragedy that we are surrounded with in the media. Each word…specifically references a problem or point of conflict in our world today. The dark color… is symbolic of the darkness and sadness that the unrighteous live in. That is what my piece is all about: letting our light shine, letting our spiritual fires burn, and helping our fellow men to find the light of Christ and rise from the ashes."
