"Light shining from one person to someone else who is out in the storm is quite literally an act of service. The girl represents a member of the Church; the boy is someone who is not. I am likening the gospel to an umbrella—it shows that we are in the world but not of the world; we are protected from evil but still able to function in society. The rain represents trials and struggles and doubts and worldly things. The boy is walking toward the girl, and she is reaching for his hand and tilting her light to shine on him. Her offered hand is an example of service, and she is willing to share her umbrella. Arise and shine forth is an action phrase."
