"When I heard the theme, I thought of Lehi's dream, of a heavy mist in which so many were wandering lost. This is why I chose the subject of a young woman leading her sister through the darkness. Confidently she holds her torch high, trusting fully in her Father in Heaven. Protectively she draws the little girl to her, communicating the feeling of safety and love. The red velvet cloak is to remind us of Christ. We should follow him in word and deed. The heavy weight of the velvet reminds us of our responsibility for our fellowmen. The bee-shaped brooch stands for diligence. The white of the blouse and the yellow gold stand for purity and faith."
