"This painting illustrates my own interpretation of Matthew 5:14, which says, “Ye are the light of the world.” The painting shows Zion being established in the mountains and its light illuminating the dark world. The candle symbolizes taking the light of the gospel to all the world and being an example, while the bushel represents those who do not share their light. The alpine village symbolizes Zion and its inhabitants and a refuge from the storm, and the three stars represent the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, who light our way."
