Visually lost among the busyness and chaos of the crowd is Jesus and the Apostles. While trying to make His way through the masses on the way to heal the daughter of Jairus, He inadvertently healed the woman with an issue of blood when she touched the hem of His garment. While this story is typically rendered with the key figures positioned centrally, this depiction captures the commotion of the moment, where those in the crowd (and perhaps the viewers themselves), could easily miss the magnitude of the moment.
“The title refers not only to the woman’s illness,” said Kershisnik, “but to the fact that Jesus came to us as a member of the human family. A full participant in our blood and sweat and dirt and breath. Subject, as we are, to gravity, laughter, setbacks, and too much to do.”
