Describing her influences, Winegar said: “I have always been drawn to the solemnity of Byzantine altarpieces. They present a certain reverence in their rigidity and textural details which I tried to replicate, but I also wanted to communicate the varying emotion that comes with trying to be a disciple. I use the people I know [as models], all of whom find themselves on different spiritual paths. Ultimately, though, Christ is there, with His hands outstretched still.”
