In describing In Search of the MakerI, Sanford said: “I often stop midmeal to hold my plate or cup in the air and examine the maker’s mark. But what is it about knowing an object’s origin that improves my interactions with it? I have found, in my simple but individual path of ‘work[ing] out [my] own salvation’ (Philippians 2:12) that a critical mind and careful eye are traits worth developing—these are traits that shape, inform, and produce my beliefs” (see Psalm 121:1–2).
