“We believe that our Heavenly Father desires that we see His work all around us, in the simplest things of our life as in the most grandiose,” said Guillaume Boudrias-Plouffe and Émilie Levert—a husband-and-wife team, who, with their two children, have created a series of artworks jointly under the name, La Famille Plouffe, and exhibited them at museums and galleries throughout Canada, France, the Ivory Coast, and Italy.
This sculptural work of a cloud and a sky is made “from ordinary materials,” said the Plouffe family, “that remind us of our grandparents.” Created out of everyday things (bedding fabrics, polystyrene, furniture ash), the work explores what the Plouffes call the “transmission of an intangible cultural heritage” through banal objects. Intergenerational identity develops often in domestic settings, and these artifacts of the everyday speak to the influence of grandparents, parents, and children on our sense of self.
