The immensity of the night sky fills Thompson with wonder and peace. “God’s work and glory are incredibly vast in scale . . . , yet simple in purpose,” he said. In the Pearl of Great Price, “Abraham is taught that every person has always existed.” Learning this eternal perspective, Thompson learned that God knows him and everyone personally. It inspires him to be more obedient to God and more compassionate to others.
Taking on a conceptual approach to image making, Thompson depicted Lights of Night within “the visual language of modernism.” The structure and shape are entirely integrated and define one another. “They are one eternal round.”
