My Faith depicts King Lamoni’s wife. While her husband lay seemingly dead, the queen chose to believe the words of Ammon. Her example of faith was not only seen in her words but also witnessed by her actions. “I always imagine her in fervent prayer, asking for her faith to be sustained,” said Winder. “As I worked on this painting, I would repeat the words ‘I believe.’”
Using her mother, a Santa Clara Pueblo American Indian, as the model, Winder also captured her mother’s faith, example, and purity. “Everything about her inspires my belief. It is through her that I first saw the fruits of faith. I painted this piece to honor [her].”
