Naomi’s Tree of Life depicts the artist’s daughter holding on to scriptures (as a symbol of the iron rod) and pondering Lehi’s vision, specifically the “joy of the partaking of the fruit which Nephi describes as ‘the love of God,’” said Close. “A mother’s greatest hope for her children is that they will feel the love that their Savior has for them in this life and eternally.” It is this hope that is captured in the upper portion of the painting, with a mother and child immersed in the foliage of the tree of life, reaching toward the most holy fruit.
