For Cunningham, “no one in scripture exemplifies the ability to act without complaint better than Nephi.” Trying to capture this exemplary faith, he depicted Nephi kneeling in reverence and humility “as he strings his bow with eyes cast upward towards heaven.”
After Nephi’s bow of fine steel broke, his family faced the possibility of starvation. Yet Nephi proceeded with humility, faith, ingenuity, and action, approaching both his father and the Lord with his makeshift bow: “Whither shall I go?” (1 Nephi 16:23).
