Pondering Forever is a sculpture that sets the constraints of the world in contrast to the wide possibilities of eternity in dialogue. The central thinking figure has what Moffett calls an “Eternity Box” on its head. The rusty, weathered cube symbolizes our limited earthly perspective, and the circular hole, when looked at from above, symbolizes heaven, as the viewer encounters facing mirrors that replicate ad infinitum, creating a sense of infinity.
“Deep meditation, study, and prayer can lead to special moments where pain and challenges are swallowed up by understanding,” said Moffett. “When I look at the stars and think how there is no end, my finite, earthly mind is comforted with the reassurance that there is more.”
