“I believe that we are an accumulation of our past,” said Brown, “shaped by experiences in specific locations and how we remember and respond to those experiences. This particular piece suggests the unique spirituality and strength of character that occurs as different experiences from different places merge together over time.” Brown created the piece by combining shapes from significant places from her life, such as schools, churches, and homes, and then added and removed lines and shapes, layering and finally connecting the “distinct locations into one complex object,” what she describes as “an enigmatic recollection of how I became who I am now.”
