The cord of scarlet in the book of Joshua was a sign of deliverance, mercy, and salvation against the siege of Jericho. Malca, in making this work, wondered how such a simple sign could “depend on your existence and that of your family” and asked himself what kind of signs we should have in our homes to prevail toward mercy and grace. A symbol of deliverance, the scarlet cord foretold redemption and salvation through Jesus.
