The Second Resurrection

Carin June Fausett

Medium

United States
ca. 2019
Acrylic and charcoal on panel

This painting is about the power of Christ’s Atonement to heal. In the center is a bright red bird, whose damaged wings are spread open and triumphant and whose heart has been changed through Christ. As the grounded black birds look up to see this victory, they are given hope. The ladders represent the steps of recovery that can help them access the ability to transform, become cleansed, recover, and be made new.

The painting is a tribute to the artist’s sons, Fausett explained. “[They] have gained more compassion, more humility, and helped more people than I would have thought possible. All because they carry wounds that cannot be seen, worked the steps, had a change of heart, and have always had a Savior.”
