Using Chinese folk art, with its bold colors and simple lines, Chu depicts missionaries visiting a family in rural China, the visit of Christ to His people, and a child in prayer. She explained, “China is currently closed to proselyting missionaries, but the painting points to a [hoped-for] future of the gospel spreading in China.” The house and yard are based on Chu’s grandparents’ home in China. The fish on the table points to Christ, and the upside-down Chinese characters on the open doors say blessing.
