Of the Redeemer, Isaiah wrote, “He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces” (Isaiah 25:8).

Veil offers both a macro and a micro meditation that reflects on the eternal nature of our beings and the way that Christ’s Atonement allows us to overcome the finality of mortality and death. The fallen birch tree, “is symbolic of our own temporary and fragile physical bodies,” said Doxey-Marshall. “The top half of the painting is a stir of “lavender dust flowing like a shear fabric,” nearly forming a mountain, that functions visually as a symbol of the veil that shrouds our eyes and at times opens enough to give us a grander picture of eternity.
