Bobbin lace fabric collar
“This collar is an adaptation of an English-Bedfordshire lace edging for a handkerchief I started in February 2004 and finished one year later. It took approximately 1,000 hours to make. This is the third collar I have made of this style of lace. My paternal grandparents immigrated from England and made the trek by handcart, and my grandmother made lace in England. My maternal grandparents immigrated from Switzerland. They produced lace there, and the family lace store is still in business. I started a tradition with these collars. Each one is for the occasion of our sons leaving on their missions, and the thirdborn will be 19 next March. I have also taught my daughter to make lace to carry on the family tradition. I am very grateful for my grandparents joining church and coming to Utah. We want to carry on their legacy of faith by continuing lace making.”
