"This painting is one in a series that explores how the spirit of Elijah touches my life as an artist. This figure represents my great-grandfather, whose family immigrated from England. Seeking to convey a sense of peering beyond the veil, I stretched a semitransparent silk panel between myself and the model. The figure’s hands are raised as if he is attempting to communicate with the viewer. I have a great appreciation for my ancestors and a sure faith that they are an important part of my life now and eternally. This faith prompts me to love and serve those of my family who have passed on as well as those living.”
