“I took this photograph in August 2005 while in Nauvoo. It shows the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum on their horses as they submit to one last arrest and are headed to Carthage willingly. Seeing the finished Nauvoo Temple in front of them reveals what they might have envisioned, as the temple was not yet finished. Brother Joseph knew what lay ahead and yet took courage knowing that the Church was in good hands. In the photo, the darkness at the bottom suggests what lay ahead for Joseph and Hyrum Smith. The slow transition into the clouds and blue sky shows that the heavens are near and that they and we are not alone in the times of affliction, trials and troubles.”
