“I began the piece as a portrait, and the sheep were added to develop the composition. The painting began to evolve at that point and gained its name. The scriptural passage and story of leaving the 99 and going to look for the one was appealing to me. One morning I entered my studio where this painting of the Savior was, and I was amazed at the difficulty I had avoiding His gaze. His eyes seemed to follow me everywhere I moved. Then it hit me, I had left the comfort of the 99 and had become the one. He was coming for me.”
