“President Spencer W. Kimball’s direction at the April 1976 general conference was: ‘We encourage you to grow all the food that you feasibly can on your own property. Berry bushes, grapevines, fruit trees—plant them if your climate is right for their growth. Grow vegetables and eat them from your own yard.’ My husband, Ted, never cared about a garden before, but he hearkened to President Kimball and ever since has kept a wonderful garden. So many call him their master gardener. One year he grew a pumpkin that barely fit in his wheelbarrow. I designed this quilt to honor him for following the words of the prophet in this way and in so many other ways.”
