“I have great conviction that the earth was created as a key component of God’s plan of happiness. I believe that the Creator suffused His work of art on the earth with infinite lessons and metaphors that are designed to bring us back into His presence. When I feel overwhelmed by the cares of the world I cannot look upon a sunrise without experiencing an overwhelming sense of hope and God’s love for me. I try to convey that sensation in my landscape painting. This is expressed in words from ‘How Gentle God’s Commands’: ‘That hand which bears all nature up / Shall guard his children well’ (Hymns, no. 125)”
